Siddha Medical System (SMS) is one of the ancient systems of Indian Medicines and Varma therapy (VT) is a unique branch of this system. It is a holistic system, which covers a broad spectrum of ailments – both for chronic, acute and challengeable diseases – even forms part of martial arts. VT is widely used for treating a number of chronic ailments, bone diseases and fractures, etc. A number of traditional Varma Healers are treating many diseases, particularly, fracture, dislocations, sprains, muscular problems and traumatic swellings. Their methods of treatment have not been brought out in the form of case studies, so much so, except themselves and a closed circle no body elese knows their methods.

Majic of Tejas
I was suffering from severe itching on my face. At first, I tried application of turmeric. The itching did not stop but small circular white spots developed on the face. I visited a hospital for treatment but to no avail. Being a social worker and in constant contact with the public in general and womenfolk and children in particular, I was self-conscious about my appearance and face too. I was not able to concentrate on my work. Then I remembered about the Siddha clinic run by Dr.V.Ganapathy, Vivekananda Kendra Natural Resources Development Project. As a last resort, I called on him and told about my problems. He assured me that it was a small thing and gave me an ointment prepared by Amudha Surabhi Federation and asked me to apply it for few days. He assured that the white spots would vanish and the itching would stop. The confidence with which he assured me was reassuring. I tried it and in about four days time the spots were slowly fading and the itching also getting reduced. I reported to him about the improvement. He again assured me that everything would be all right soon. It really became all right and removed my worries. I am indeed grateful to Amudha Surabhi Federation for their ointment “Tejas” and Vivekananda Kendra – NARDEP for their support to this Self Help Group Federation.
